The Other Side of the Digital World: The Joys and Sorrows of Building Digital Assets from Scratch

Many people assume everyone's lives are fine. Yet, each individual has their own story of struggle. Perhaps it's due to less-than-ideal circumstances or specific challenges. It's the same for me. At only 34 years old, there's still a lot I don't know, or financial limitations. Honestly, I barely make ends meet, but I'm still grateful to be able to eat and drink well every day.

For me, the internet is my world. I only communicate directly through devices and not directly with people. If this were reversed, I'd often struggle more, because I'm an introvert whose energy quickly drains when interacting directly with people.

For me, digital assets are domains, websites and blogs. In the world of domains, websites, and blogs, I started my journey by building a blog, even though it didn't yield anything other than experience. I feel like managing my own blog is quite a feat, managing existing resources. The one that produces the most articles is a blog about football.

I imagine I could make a lot of money from blog monetization, or from buying and selling domains or the websites I build. But I haven't been able to achieve my dream yet. You can comment if you have similar hobbies or jobs to mine. I currently earn money by completing online surveys and using my pocket money to care for my parents. This post is entirely unexaggerated; it's a true story.

The Story of My First Website Going Live

The first blog I built was a service from Blogger or Blogspot. I was thrilled when my blog first went live. I could freely fill it with my own writings. I could also use any theme I thought was cool. However, I wasn't satisfied because I was still using Blogspot, where the website address, xxxxxxxx.blogspot.com, had to use the URL of Google's Blogspot or Blogger. The next challenge for me was how to build my own website with my own domain name and turn it into a business.

The story goes that I failed many times to create a website because I simply didn't know how. I was confused about what to use for my first domain name because it was 'hillaryrclinton.io'. Honestly, at the time, I didn't know how to build a website and wasn't confident writing in English. Then, my second experience was still failing to get my website live. That's because I still didn't understand. It wasn't until my third attempt that I successfully built my website.

My first website went live recently, in April of this year, 2026. I used Google to purchase the domain and built it using Google Sites. How did it feel? It felt amazing, and I felt like I was now starting to be able to independently build my own website.

Behind-the-Scenes Realities and Challenges

Building a website means you're both the company's CEO and its digital staff. You act as both owner and employee. We have to consistently produce article after article. Over time, my back ached because I was working on a budget, using only a small table and sitting on the floor. Day after day, I went through with a tired back and back every evening. For your information, my working hours were from dawn to sunset. I rarely worked nights.

Amidst my parents' demands for success and for me to be independent and help them, I had the burden of selling my website, or at least my domain name, for a high price, and that wasn't easy. Perhaps I had to accept the fact that my domain might sell for very little. Another failure was failing to become a Google AdSense publisher. I was actually very sad. But I had to move on and use Plan B.

Because I have schizophrenia, I sometimes feel down. When I do, I can only rest and hope for a speedy recovery. It's a real test for me. It's difficult because my father demands that I always be healthy. My mother also can't get help when she needs it. In Indonesia, especially big cities, everything can become very chaotic and hectic. Honestly, I dream of living in a developed country that is more organized and orderly. And I feel like I want to give up living in Indonesia where everything is wild and like living in the middle of a forest where whoever is strong wins or whoever cheats wins. It's ironic and scary, huh?

Valuable Lessons

I do all of this, like taking online surveys, buying domains, and building websites, because I want to be independent. I can't be a permanent employee due to my health limitations and limited education, or because I'm not a bachelor's degree. This is what I can do according to my passion and abilities.

What's the valuable lesson? The lesson is that the world is very complex, and I'm very grateful to live with the internet, which allows me to work from my own home. My office is my own home, and I can learn so much from the internet about everything.

The second lesson is that I have to be patient in the process. Sometimes I can't be patient because my environment only wants to accept results. But everyone has to be patient, and I have to go through the process. I push them, and I also have to be patient, and I pray for my success.

I also have to manage my health to avoid burnout, even if it means getting sick, hehe. Let's just accept it, because life is like this; everything requires patience.

Conclusion

So, let's just enjoy life, whatever happens, keep fighting, stay motivated, and don't forget to rest and pamper yourself.
